Explore the Rail Corridor
The Rail Corridor project adds to and connects our neighborhood multi-use trails and adds more sustainable transportation throughout the County.
Complete the Rail Trail – 32 miles of protected trail for people of all ages and abilities to walk and roll. Complete the Coastal Rail Trail between Watsonville and Davenport as quickly as possible. Create a safe corridor for active transportation and play. Connect half of the county’s population, 88 parks, and 42 schools that are all within a mile of the rail corridor.
Add Zero-Emissions Light Rail – Expand our public transportation system by adding passenger rail on our community-owned tracks between Watsonville and Santa Cruz. Zero-emissions rail will reduce pollution. Rail combined with rideshares, shuttles, and synchronized bus service will give us easy and reliable connections to the places we’re going. Better public transportation will help us travel and commute without needing to drive. Rail offers an alternative to Highway 1 congestion, so South County commuters can spend more time with family.
Improve Safety and Walkability – walkable, bikeable neighborhoods encourage us to walk and roll, instead of drive. Neighborhoods with safe streets, bike lanes, and sidewalks create room for us to move freely. Safe neighborhoods encourage us to walk and roll to all our destinations, including protected trails and public transportation.
